Balancing Hormones

with Mary Farhi, MD, MPH, NCMP, ABIHM, ABOIM, RYT

Saturday, May 7th; 1-4pm - $50

Create Wellness & Vitality

Hormonal balance is a beautiful dance. Key to this balance is a healthy system. Health is more than just the absence of disease. Hormones are chemical messengers that work in concert to attain homeostasis and balance. Many factors are involved in this hormonal balance that include hormone production, transport, and detoxification. Eventually a person may become dis-eased if their body and hormones are out of balance. Find out how to identify the zone of dysfunction that occurs between optimal health and disease. Often you may blame your reproductive hormones when you feel out of balance. However, it is important to address the entire hormonal or endocrine system to achieve balance and health. The adrenal glands are the master gland and if out of balance, may contribute to fatigue, anxiety, insomnia, and weight gain. Additionally, an overworking pancreas can overproduce insulin which may cause irregular menses, abnormal hair growth, infertility, and difficulty losing weight. The thyroid gland can be underactive, yet the blood tests may be normal. Explore what contributes and influences hormonal balance, how to diagnosis imbalance, and what you can do to correct imbalance, create wellness, and feel vital and energized using integrative approaches.

Benefits of a Healthy Gut: Create Wellness & Vitality

In the US, more than 70 million people suffer from some form of gastrointestinal (GI) disorder. When the GI system is compromised, it can result in distant complaints and illnesses, even in the absence of overt GI symptoms. The information and research on the gut microbiome and its contribution and importance to health is exploding. Modern science has validated what ancient healing traditions have known for centuries: the GI tract has a central role in chronic, systemic disease.

Gut dysfunction from infections and allergens to leaky gut and imbalances in the microbiome may affect a person's health and diminish vitality. This is often the first place to start to improve overall health and create wellness. Explore the current research on the role of the GI tract in health and disease, as well as ways to diagnose and heal a dysfunctional GI system. Find out how to weed, seed, and feed your gut microbiome by exploring dietary prescriptions and supplements as well as lifestyle modifications. A healthy gut improves your overall health. This lectre is opn to everyone interested in creating wellness and vitality.

    12:00 PM - 1:00 PM CST

  • Location: FREE Teleconference - Open to the public

Health providers, when working with clients and patients who have received a less than optimal diagnosis, have an opportunity to introduce the idea of creating wellness instead of focusing on treating disease.  Choosing to make lifestyle changes can be viewed as an opportunity instead of as a deprivation. It is an opportunity to discuss the concept of going upstream to identify root causes rather than focus on a disease or illness. It is an opportunity to help the patient identify and explore how the patient arrived at this point.

Participants will:

*Explore the concept of functional medicine and going upstream to explore root causes instead of focusing on treating disease.
*Explore the concept of choice and lifestyle change in creating wellness and health by taking small steps.
*Explore how lifestyle choices affect how we feel physically and emotionally using a symptom diary.

This webinar is FREE and open to everyone interested in mindful eating, including professionals from all disciplines. Access information (telephone and online) will be emailed to you following registration. A recording will be made available to all members following the presentation. One CPE is available to TCME members who participate live in this program.

Mindfulness Based Wellness/Conscious Living Workshop with Mary Farhi, MD

Mindfulness Based Wellness/Conscious Living

A three-week introductory course designed to develop and
integrate mindfulness practices into everyday life, using meditation, body
awareness, and gentle movement.

Evidence-based research has shown that developing awareness through
mindfulness practice can lead to greater overall health and well-being. This three part series is an introduction to the program, MBSR, developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn, PhD, founder and creator of the Stress Reduction Program at the Center for Mindfulness, University of Massachusetts.

“In this very moment, no matter what your condition or situation, you have within you all the resources you need for growing, healing, and working with stress, pain, illness, and the everyday challenges you are facing. A growing body of scientific evidence supports the reality of a profound mind-body connection and now recognizes that   learning and practicing mindfulness can positively affect your sense of health and wellbeing physically, mentally, and emotionally, while simultaneously offering you a means of discovering a deeper sense of ease and peace of mind.”
            - Saki Santorelli Ed.D, MA, Executive Director, Center for Mindfulness

Life can be stressful for all of us. Come and learn tools to manage stress and live with greater ease, strength and resilience. We will also incorporate mindful eating and nutrition for wellness as well.

The class provides 8 hours of instruction, handouts, and

meditation recordings for home practice.

This course is accessible for all ages/fitness abilities. The yoga postures
will be introductory and do not require any previous yoga training.

Impact of Inflammation on Health

Strengthen the Immune System

Mary Farhi, MD, MPH, NCMP, ABIHM, RYT

Inflammation is your body’s natural response to threats from germs, toxins, environmental pollutants, injury, stress, and other harmful influences. The process involves immune, vascular, and cellular biochemical reactions that work to remove the offenders and protect tissues from damage. Symptoms of inflammation are usually characterized by redness, swelling, pain and stiffness but sometimes the effects do not manifest outwardly until there has been significant damage. Acutely, this natural defense mode works to shield your body’s systems and initiate the healing process. However, when your body is in a chronic state of inflammation, it can have serious effects on your cellular health, compromise your immune system, and lead to autoimmune and degenerative diseases including cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and Alzheimer’s. Luckily, there are numerous ways to control chronic inflammation naturally and promote overall health in the process.
Find out about the many manifestations of immune dysfunction, as well as many factors that modulate your immune system. These modulating influences include psychoemotional, endocrinological, environmental, nutritional, and gastrointestinal. Be informed about therapeutic interventions and alternatives for quieting the immune dysregulation to improve your health.
